Democrat and BET founder Robert Johnson admitted in a new interview that President Donald Trump is in a strong position to win re-election next year.

"I think the president has always been in a position where it's his to lose based on his bringing a sort of disruptive force into what would be called political norms," Johnson told CNBC.

Johnson noted that among Trump's strengths is his ability to "dominate the news cycle," adding that none of his Democrat challengers can do that effectively.

"If you take a snapshot today, I don't think that group is capable of beating Trump despite what the polls say," Johnson said.

In July, Johnson said that despite being a longtime Democrat and a Hillary Clinton voter in the 2016 election, he said the Democrats have become too liberal.

"The party in my opinion, for me personally, has moved too far to the left," he said.
