Donald Trump told college students Wednesday they can gain respect by hanging around people who are not successful.
According to
Politico,Trump made the remarks at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wis.
After telling a story about a friend who is "just an unlucky guy," Trump doled out some advice for being successful.
"And you'll find that when you become very successful, the people that you will like best are the people that are less successful than you, because when you go to a table you can tell them all of these wonderful stories, and they'll sit back and listen," Trump said.
"Does that make sense to you? OK? Always be around unsuccessful people because everybody will respect you. Do you understand that?"
Trump also talked about certain professions in which people are most happy, a list that included teachers and police officers. And according to the
New York Times, Trump said money isn't always everything.
"The people that are the happiest are not necessarily the people that are the wealthiest," the Times quotes Trump as saying.
The real estate mogul, whose net worth according to
Forbes is $4.5 billion, said for the record he is "pretty happy. At least, I'm pretty content, I tell you," reports the Times.
Trump came under fire for
remarks he made about abortion Wednesday. He said if the practice were to become illegal in the United States, he thinks women who have the procedure ought to face "some form of punishment."
