Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., fired back at President Donald Trump's claim "tremendous medical costs" were part of his reasoning in banning transgender people from the military on Wednesday, saying more money could be saved by cutting payments for Viagra and erectile disfunction.
"It's baloney," Duckworth told MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes" on Wednesday.
According to Duckworth, the Defense Deparmtment spent $5.6 million on transgender healthcare in 2016 compared to $41 million on Viagra and $84 million on erectile disfunction.
"If they want to cut costs, I don't think this is place to look," she said. "It is simply boggling the mind that this is what he's spending his time on at a time when he should be coming up with a strategy on how to defeat ISIS."
Duckworth, a veteran of the Iraq War, lost both legs in 2004 when the Black Hawk helicopter she was co-piloting was shot down by Iraqi insurgents.
