China has taken advantage of the United States for decades, but they are "more than" living up to the terms of the trade deal reached earlier this year because "they know I'm very angry at them" over the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump said Monday.
"Last week, because they know I'm very angry at them because this should have never happened, they made the largest order of corn, the largest order of soybeans in history," Trump said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "They made the largest beef order that they've done in a long time they are going the opposite way because they know how I feel because look they can't make it without us."
Over the years, the United States has paid China "so much money," Trump said, but "we made a great trade deal."
America's farmers are "so happy" that they don't want Trump to take action against China over the coronavirus pandemic, he said, but "I can't forget that they allowed this to happen to the United States, and by the way, Europe and the rest of the world."
There are new flareups in Germany, France, Spain, and Italy, he added, and they have flare-ups all over the place ... it's really something I can't forget, what they've done to this world. I can't just say we made a great trade deal so I'm having a very hard time and China knows it and they're ordering more than we've ever done which is very smart."
The administration said Monday it is putting additional sanctions on China over telecommunications giant Huawei, and Trump commented that's because "we don't want their equipment in the United States because they spy on us, and any country that uses it we're not going to do anything in terms of sharing intelligence absolutely, Huawei is a disaster."
He added that he has gotten "about every country to drop Huawei," and continued that China did "a terrible thing to us" with the coronavirus.
