NextGen American, a group backed by billionaire Democratic donor Ton Steyer, is spending $350,000 to make sure young voters to go the polls in four California primaries, The Hill is reporting.

The group is launching a campaign designed to get a total of 200,000 young people to cast ballots on June 5 in four GOP-held districts, all carried by Hillary Clinton in 2016, The Hill said. Those districts include the seats held by Reps. Jeff Denham and Dana Rohrabacher and the seats being left open by retiring Reps. Ed Royce and Darrell Issa.

The campaign includes direct mail, digital advertising and voter outreach on colleges that are still in sessions. About 20 organizers from NextGen will be working in those districts, the website said.

California election laws call for a primary where call candidates in a particular district run regardless of party affiliation. The top two finishers in a primary advance to the November election.

But Democrats fear the large number of their party's candidates running will split the vote and allow two Republicans to compete in the November elections, The Hill said.

"Taking back our government starts in primary elections, and by turning out in droves to the polls, California Democrats will send (President Donald) Trump and the GOP a strong message this June," Steyer said.

The Los Angeles Times reported Steyer is among the largest Democratic donors in the county. The newspaper said he has committed more than $50 million to push for Trump's impeachment and to help register young voters.
