Timmons Jr. Launches Own Lobbying Firm

By    |   Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:39 PM EST

Bill Timmons Jr., son of iconic Washington lobbyist Bill Timmons Sr., has left Prime Policy Group to open his own shop.

Timmons Sr., who was an aide to several Republican presidents, co-founded Timmons & Co., the first major non-lawyer lobbying group in Washington, D.C. That firm merged with BKSH & Associates in 2010 to create Prime Policy.

Timmons Jr. started working at Timmons & Co. in 2000. His dad retired in 2009. Timmons Jr. remains on good terms with Prime Policy but wanted to have something of his own, according to The Hill. His new firm is Timmons Consulting.

"If you have a smaller number of clients, you can become, as I like to say, almost an extension of their staff. You can delve into their issues and really understand what they need and make an impact for them in Congress,” Timmons told The Hill. “You work smarter. You work more efficiently."

Timmons’ clients include the University of Miami and True Position Inc., a Berwyn, Pa., company that sells location technology.

He’s a veteran of Republican politics, working for the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the Republican National Committee. Timmons has been part of every Republican presidential convention since 1984.
