Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., blasted Republicans for eliminating new funding for states to bolster election security.
His comments came during a Friday interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
“There's no good answer for the fact that every Republican in the House of Representatives voted yesterday against additional funding for election security in a vote that took place at the end of a week when the president started the week by showing that he was with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin instead of with America,” he said.
And Deutch noted it was also “a week after the indictment came down that showed the extent of this hacking and what the Russian’s were trying to do.”
He said Republicans, however, were steadfastly against the additional funding.
“It's tone deaf,” he said. “It’s unpatriotic. It is inexplicable.”
Republicans have argued money is already available to states for election security. House Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions, R-Texas, said the Democrats’ argument is a “shrewd political shenanigan that has no merit to it.”
