President Donald Trump should fire his chief of staff John Kelly to send a message he supports women, a Democratic lawmaker said Tuesday.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., addressed the controversy surrounding Rob Porter, who resigned from his West Wing job last week after it was alleged that he was physically and verbally abusive toward his two ex-wives. The scandal has blown up, with some claiming Kelly knew about the allegations months ago but protected Porter's status as staff secretary.
"Lots of folks have been asking whether the chief of staff should resign; the real question to ask is should the president fire him," Baldwin said. "I think the answer is yes, if he wants to make a clearer statement on these deeply troubling ways in which this White House and this president is ignoring the voices of women."
CNN host Brooke Baldwin then asked the lawmaker to confirm she was asking Trump to fire Kelly to send a message.
"Yeah," Baldwin replied.
