AG Garland: Supreme Court Jan. 6 Decision Won't Affect Most Cases

Friday, 28 June 2024 12:33 PM EDT

Attorney General Merrick Garland on Friday said he was disappointed by the Supreme Court's decision to side with a Jan. 6 rioter who challenged federal prosecutors' decision to charge him for obstructing the congressional certification of the 2020 election.

In a statement, Garland said that despite the ruling, the "vast majority of the more than 1,400 defendants charged for their illegal actions on January 6 will not be affected by this decision."
