A West Virginia super PAC raised $700,000 in support of state attorney general and pro-Donald Trump Republican candidate Patrick Morrisey in the hopes of a midterm battle against Sen. Joe Manchin, the Washington Examiner reports.
Morrisey and the West Virginia 35th PAC are licking their chops in a state that President Donald Trump won by 42 points in the 2016 election.
Morrisey, however, does have a primary fight standing in the way of his challenge to Manchin.
"Our organization will have the resources necessary to independently communicate Attorney General Morrisey's proven record as a strong conservative leader who will support President Trump's agenda and stand up for West Virginia values in Washington," 35th PAC Executive Director D.J. Eckert told the Examiner.
Morrisey now has $1.7 million in his war chest to take on Evan Jenkins in West Virginia's GOP primary on May 8.
Manchin had $4.1 million on hand at the end of September, according to the Federal Election Commission.
