President Donald Trump is "owned by Russia," Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., said in a tweet Sunday.
"He is owned by Russia and the USA doesn’t have a commander in chief in this information war. We have been attacked and we have a eunuch in chief," Cohen said in the tweet.
The congressman’s comment included a link to a New York Times opinion piece by columnist Thomas Friedman, in which Friedman said the president could be too compromised to respond appropriately to Russian allegations of tampering with the election.
"Either Trump’s real estate empire has taken large amounts of money from shady oligarchs linked to the Kremlin… or Trump actually believes Russian President Vladimir Putin when he says he is innocent of intervening in our elections," Friedman wrote in The Times on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, Cohen responded to a Trump tweet in which the president said Russia was laughing at the U.S. "They’ve been laughing since the electoral college awarded the presidency to Putin’s candidate," Cohen tweeted.
