White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is trying to oust new White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, Jonathan Swan of Axios tweeted Monday.

The showdown between the two follows Scaramucci's profane tirade against Bannon with Ryan Lizza of The New Yorker last week in which he suggested the chief strategist was in the White House only for his own glory and not to serve the country.

Since then, Breitbart, of which Bannon was executive chair before taking the position at the White House, has been attacking Scaramucci, with the website's Tony Lee saying Sunday his antics have overshadowed important speeches by President Donald Trump, and the new communications director even made the mistake of inadvertently revealing the president as an anonymous source.

To make matters worse, Lee said Scaramucci failed to deliver a unified and coherent message from the administration about important issues concerning the investigation into Russian meddling in the American elections.

Breitbart's Lee also pointed out Scaramucci himself leaked by initiating "a phone call with someone he knew to be a reporter during which he was talking about internal feuds, trashing his colleagues, his own conversations with the president, and that Priebus would be forced to resign soon."

This "lack of discipline and knowledge about various ground rules should be red flags for Trump and administration officials about the massive liability Scaramucci may become going forward," Lee wrote.

Breitbart also had another article last week slamming Scaramucci for being "drunk with power," in addition to another criticism against the Trump administration for its hypocritical attack on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, whom the website called "the president's only Cabinet pick dedicated to furthering his nationalist agenda."
