Bannon: Roy Moore Will 'Fight the Establishment' Like Trump
(Fox News' "Hannity")

Former chief White House strategist Steve Bannon said Monday his support of President Donald Trump is the reason why he backs a Senate candidate whom Trump opposes.

Bannon appeared on Fox News' "Hannity" a short time after he gave a speech at a rally for former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who is going against Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., in Tuesday's GOP runoff ahead of December's special election.

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence support Strange.

"I'm here to support President Donald J. Trump, I'm here to support him by having folks down here support Judge Roy Moore," Bannon said.

"I think Roy Moore is the guy that's going to respect Donald Trump and fight the establishment."

Bannon then made the point established politicians and those in their circles are trying to bring down Moore — just as they did to Trump when he was running for president.

"This election, [there is] $30 million being spent by [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell and that crew of corrupt [politicians] . . . they've raised money to destroy judge Moore.

"The same gang that's trying to destroy Roy Moore is the same gang that tried to destroy Donald Trump."

Moore and Strange are fighting for the Republican nomination in December's special election that will decide who takes the seat left by Jeff Sessions after he was confirmed to serve as attorney general. Strange was appointed the seat on a temporary basis until a special election could be held.

"This seat is Jeff Sessions' seat," Bannon said. "That's why tomorrow I hope the folks in Alabama send another righteous man like Jeff Sessions; I hope they send Judge Moore into the runoff with the Democrat [Doug Jones]."

Bannon also weighed in on the NFL's National Anthem controversy, which saw more than 200 players take a knee during Sunday's games.

"If people in this country take a knee in the National Football League they should take a knee at night, every night, and thank God in Heaven Donald Trump is president of the United States," Bannon said. "He has saved this country so much grief, he has done such a tremendous job with virtually no help."
