Donald Trump's play for Wisconsin is a smart move since the Midwestern state "is his best shot at getting to 270 [electoral votes]," Rep. Sean Duffy said Tuesday.
"Since 1994, they haven't voted for a Republican candidate," the Wisconsin Republican Duffy, who will introduce Trump at a rally later Tuesday, told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" show. "Since the Scott Walker recall election, it's been closer."
Trump needs an extra state, Duffy continued, and whether it's Pennsylvania, Michigan, or his own state of Wisconsin, Trump needs one extra state to put him over the top.
According to Real Clear Politics, Clinton is ahead of Trump by 5.7 points, but another poll is coming out on Wednesday that will put Trump more into striking distance, said Duffy. The state's Senate race, between incumbent Republican Ron Johnson and challenger Russ Feingold, is a major battle as well, he said.
Trump will prevail, Duffy said, as there are "common sense people" in Wisconsin and the Rust Belt States, and "we like straight shooters. The email scandal with Hillary Clinton hasn't played well, and getting questions from Donna Brazile, we don't like that."
Meanwhile, people who have already cast absentee ballots in Wisconsin are allowed to change their vote up to three times, and Duffy said that is important because people are still "ping-ponging" between the candidates as information surfaces.
"I think it comes down to who is the best to drive the company and economy, and protect the country, and defeat ISIS," he concluded.
