Vermont GOP Gov. Phil Scott says he could support William Weld, the ex-Massachusetts governor who’s announced he’ll challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 Republican presidential primary.
“Oh sure, yeah,” Scott said Thursday during a news conference Thursday when asked if he would prefer Weld over Trump.
But he stopped short of an endorsement, noting other Republicans, such as Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and current Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker are considering challenges of their own.
“I don’t know who else is going to put their name out there. I’ve heard some other names floating around, so I’m not ready to get behind anybody at this point,” Scott said at the news conference.
“I thought he was interesting, very articulate, very forthright. Didn’t agree with everything that he said, but there were a lot of things I agreed with him on. He’s an interesting guy,” he added.
