Democratic Rep. Allyson Schwartz has confirmed her intention to challenge Republican Gov. Tom Corbett in next year's Pennsylvania gubernatorial race.
If successful, the five-term congresswoman would be the first woman governor in the state's history.
Schwartz is the second Democrat to join the race,
Politico reports. John Hanger, a former environmental protection official has already announced his candidacy. Other potential candidates include former Rep. Joe Sestak, state Treasurer Rob McCord, and businessman Tom Wolf.
An EMILY's List poll rfound that Schwartz leads other potential primary opponents by wide margins. Another recent survey by Public Policy Polling predicted that a Schwartz could beat Corbett by double digits.
