Rep. Scalise: Risking US Energy Independence 'Boggles the Mind'

The United States has become a dominant energy producer under President Donald Trump, and it "boggles the mind" to think that Joe Biden would want to change that, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise said Friday.

"We can create our own energy, sending oil and natural gas to our friends all around the world," the Louisiana Republican said on Fox Business' "Mornings With Maria." "It helped us geopolitically and helped our friends reduce dependence on Russian energy and Saudi oil ... it weakened OPEC."

But nobody knows which way Biden, if sworn in, will fall on the issue of banning fracking, said Scalise, but the fact he's named John Kerry as his climate change czar is concerning.

"Kerry had one of the most failed foreign policies, and went ahead to get the deal to give Iran a nuclear weapon and undermine our biggest ally in the region, Israel, as well as so many other countries," said Scalise.

Further, it was a "smart move" for Trump to leave the Paris Agreement on climate change, said Scalise.

"We were losing manufacturing under the Obama-Biden years," he said. "We saw manufacturing leave America in droves. Great companies were leaving America."

But what "global warming alarmists" fail to recognize is that the United States already has standards that are unrivaled anywhere else, said Scalise. When China is exempt from standards, "steel will get made just in a country where they mix four or five times more carbon than if we make it in America," he added.

Meanwhile, Democrats in Congress have succeeded in pressuring big banks to not fund fossil fuel projects, but "when they say that they are against fossil fuels, watch. They fly around on jets, drive cars ... they want to get rid of all that yet are going to try to wreck your lifestyle."
