The White House said Friday that Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud congratulated President Donald Trump for the victory over the Islamic State in Mosul.

"King Salman congratulated President Trump on the victory over ISIS in Mosul," the administration said in a readout of the telephone conversation, which occurred while Trump was returning to the U.S. from Paris aboard Air Force One.

On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over ISIS in Mosul after nine months of fighting that included U.S. and coalition forces.

U.S. Central Command said Friday that areas of Mosul still needed to have explosive devices cleared away, according to news reports.

Some ISIS fighters might still be in hiding, officials said, but Iraqi forces were now in firm control of Mosul.

"The two leaders discussed recent diplomatic efforts to resolve the dispute with Qatar and underscored the importance of following through on commitments from the Riyadh Summit," the White House said in the readout.

Trump met with Muslim leaders in Riyadh in May.

"In particular, the president emphasized the need to cut all funding for terrorism and discredit extremist ideology," the White House said.
