Paul Ryan has his eyes on the prize — retaining a majority in both houses of Congress. Helping Donald Trump raise money to win the White House, on the other hand, is not part of the speaker's upcoming schedule,
Politico reports.
"Speaker Ryan is focusing on supporting House and Senate Republicans," an aide told Politico. "The [RNC] has not asked him to participate in any fundraisers to date but should they ask, we will give those requests due consideration."
Trump's fundraising efforts continue to be woefully behind those of Hillary Clinton's, with less than
$1.3 million on hand.
Having the efforts of Ryan behind him would be a tremendous boost, Politico reported:
- Ryan has raised $30 million for the party since October
- Ryan has $7.6 million on hand for his own re-election bid
- Ryan has raised nearly $18 million in the first quarter of 2016
Ryan hits the road next for fundraising events … just not for the GOP nominee for president.
The aide told Politico that Ryan is "considering doing further events in the coming months for many of our incumbent senators with tough races once the legislative calendar slows down."
