Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., said Americans will tire of the Russia investigations if they are not completed by the end of the year.
Warner is the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is probing Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential race. His comments came during an interview at a computer coding conference in California hosted by Recode.
He spoke of the pressure on the intelligence committee regarding the probe.
"There’s enormous pressure on some of the Republicans to say: 'You know, it’s time to get things over. Let’s shut it down.’ On the other hand, on the Democratic side, there’s a lot of pressure to say, 'Hey, of course, there’s collusion. Call this guy out as guilty tomorrow. Don’t wait for the process to finish,'" Warner said.
"So, we’re trying to maintain our equilibrium. And at the same time trying to protect Mueller and (Deputy Attorney General Rod) Rosenstein, where they have a lot more tools than we do. They’re doing a criminal investigation. We’re doing a counterintelligence investigation.
"The notion for those who may be partisans in the crowd, who say 'Gosh, if Democrats take control, they’ll be able to really ramp these up,'"Warner said.
"I think the American public will be tired of it if this is not wound down in this calendar year."
