Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani tweeted Friday that the 12 Russian indictments from Robert Mueller's team were "good news for all Americans" — but he called for an end to the probe and for the special counsel to declare that President Donald Trump "is completely innocent."
"The Russians are nailed," Giuliani, who joined Trump's personal legal team in April, said in his post. "No Americans are involved."
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced Friday that the 12 Kremlin officials were charged with hacking into the accounts of the Democratic National Committee, Hillary Clinton's campaign and other party operatives during the 2016 presidential election.
They then released the stolen information through fake accounts in the weeks before voters went to the polls that November.
The indictment, released before President Trump meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, does not allege that Trump campaign associates were involved or that any Americans were knowingly in contact with Russian intelligence officers.
