Now is not the proper time for President Donald Trump to consider pardoning Paul Manafort but the possibility to do so exists in the future, Rudy Giuliani said.
Giuliani is one of Trump's lawyers for the Russia investigation and told The Wall Street Journal he is advising Trump to treat Manafort like any other U.S. citizen when it comes to a presidential pardon.
"Right now would not be the time," he said. "It's my job as his private lawyer to tell him you should not even consider it now because it will be misunderstood. That doesn't mean you give away your presidential prerogative to do it at the right time.
"Manafort should get the same consideration as anyone else."
Manafort is currently sitting in an Alexandria, Virginia, jail cell as he awaits sentencing after being found guilty of financial crimes as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation. It was reported Monday a plea deal Manafort struck with Mueller's team was violated after Manafort lied to investigators.
