President Donald Trump is correct with his complaints about Democrats' refusal to make a deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, as he's put together a "reasonable deal," Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said Friday.
"He has put together a reasonable deal, gone further than Barack Obama did and said let's take care of the DACA recipients and put in place a wall and better border security so we don't find ourselves in the same position years down the road," McDaniel told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
Trump has pointed out that Democrats had said they wanted to take care of DACA recipients, said McDaniel, but even after a deal was put on the table, they refused it because "they care more about looks than the people they claim to represent."
Trump earlier on Friday had threatened to veto the $1.3 trillion omnibus bill reached by the House and Senate this week, but later capitulated, but still complained that Democrats would not allow his plan to allow at least 800,000 DACA recipients to remain in the United States.
McDaniel also sided with Trump after his announcement Thursday that he'd instructed U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to levy tariffs on at least $50 billion in Chinese imports. Within 15 days, USTR will come up with a proposed list of products that will face higher tariffs.
"The president is doing the right thing stick up for our country," said McDaniel. "China has been dealing unfairly with our country far too long and stealing our intellectual property and he's saying we're not going to stand for this longer."
Trump is seeking a fair playing field, she continued, and is standing up on behalf of average Americans "who for too long have not had a voice representing them in Washington."
Meanwhile, with the midterms underway, McDaniel said she knows Trump will keep representing all GOP candidates, as he wants to "keep America on this great comeback under his leadership."
