Joe Biden’s incoming chief of staff Ronald Klain once tweeted that elections are rigged for the incumbent, Fox News reports.
In 2014, Vox tweeted a link to an article about a Rasmussen poll with the headline: “68% of Americans think elections are rigged.”
Klain replied at the time, “that’s because they are.”
The article’s first line specifies that most Americans think elections favor the incumbent, and the author admits that the “term ‘rigged’ might go a tad far,” but notes that incumbents do tend to hold an advantage over their challengers in several key ways, mostly in terms of name recognition and an already established presence on the ground and in fundraising.
Biden said in a statement announcing Klain as his chief of staff: “Ron has been invaluable to me over the many years that we have worked together, including as we rescued the American economy from one of the worst downturns in our history in 2009 and later overcame a daunting public health emergency in 2014. His deep, varied experience and capacity to work with people all across the political spectrum is precisely what I need in a White House chief of staff as we confront this moment of crisis and bring our country together again.”
