RNC's Sean Spicer, DNC's Luis Miranda Spar Over 'Divisive' Races

The "divisive primary" between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders is leaving the Democratic National Commission in a position where it will have difficulty providing resources for the eventual nominee to win this fall, Republican National Committee communications director and chief strategist Sean Spicer said Friday.

"They have no ground game, no digital operation, their fund-raising is anemic, and they're frankly bankrupt," Spicer told CNN's Alisyn Camerota during an often-heated interview held with his Democratic National Committee counterpart, Luis Miranda on the "New Day" program.

"As much as Luis is talking about the rhetoric they're going to espouse and the talking points [they are] mailing out, e-mailing is the only resource the DNC will be able to provide their nominee."

His strong words came after Miranda criticized the "divisiveness and the ugly rhetoric [that] has been coming from Republicans for a very long time, from their party leadership, and policies that focus on those at the very top, at the expense of hard-working Americans."

"Luis did a great job reciting the DNC talking points," said Spicer. "That's his job and I appreciate that, but the reality is campaigns are about two things: candidates, the message they espouse and ability to connect with voters and mechanics. Ability to get out there and actually go door-to-door, contact voters and get them out to the polls."

Meanwhile, Miranda said most Republicans see their primary race as divisive, but Spicer retorted that in 35 of 39 states, the Democratic voter turnout is down by 20 percent, while Republican turnout is up by 60 percent and as high as 70 percent in battleground states.
