Frantic state GOP officials across the country are dealing with a stark reality — there aren't enough boots on the ground to do the work of winning elections.

Frantic and embattled officials at the Republican National Committee are trying to assuage the state organizers with a promise that help is on the way.

In a memo, The RNC vowed to send 250 additional staffers to 11 key battleground states, The Hill reports.

But according to Politico, state organizers in some of those key states were already promised ground support, which hasn't happened. Further, June 1 is late in the game to just now be sending memos about fortifying efforts in the states.

Some of the shortfalls, according to Politico:
  • Ohio: RNC promised 170 field staffers by July 1; 25 so far
  • Wisconsin: 100 agreed upon with RNC; handful in place
  • Pennsylvania: Hoped for 175 staffers; small fraction of that in place
  • Florida: Understanding of 100 staffers in place by July; 30 there now
By comparison, the Democrats have 80 staffers in Florida now with a projected 200 by the middle of June; and in Ohio, 70 full-time staffers work the state now, Politico reported.

The problem for the RNC comes down to shortfalls in fundraising, Politico reported. Last month the RNC reported having $16 million in the bank, a fraction of what they hand at the same point in time in 2008 and 2012.
