Despite a recent poll showing him neck-and-neck with former Gov. Charlie Crist, incumbent Florida Gov. Rick Scott says his job-creation policies will keep him in office this November.
Fox News Channel's Neil Cavuto pointed to a
University of North Florida poll from Monday that showed Republican Scott at 33 percent and Democrat Crist at 34 percent. Cavuto asked why Scott wasn't "running away" with the election.
Scott pointed out that there is still plenty of time to woo voters between now and November, adding that he wasn't even in the race yet at this point during his first successful run.
He said his track record of lower taxes and less regulation is luring more businesses to Florida, thus providing more jobs.
Scott defeated Democrat Alex Sink in the 2010 gubernatorial election, and she used anti-Scott rhetoric before
her recent loss to Republican David Jolly in a special election in the Florida's 13th Congressional District.
That tactic appeared to have backfired, Cavuto said, showing that Floridians may not dislike Scott as much as Sink anticipated.
