Former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania was not impressed with President Donald Trump's reaction to the accusations of abuse by the two former wives of Rob Porter, the commander-in-chief's former staff secretary who resigned last Wednesday.
"I'm disappointed that the president reacted this way,'' Santorum said Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union" with Jake Tapper.
"From a political point of view, it was a — it was devastating. He can't continue to make these kinds of statements without at least putting it in context."
Over the weekend, Trump appeared to double down on his belief in "due process" regarding allegations made against Porter and another former staffer accused of domestic violence by former wives, maintaining lives were being "shattered" by allegations of abuse.
Trump tweeted Saturday:
The president made no statement of sympathy towards the three ex-wives.
"I don't disagree with his point that people are entitled to due process, and we should automatically not listen to any charge out there," Santorum said.
"But there is a lot of evidence to support this charge, but even if there wasn't, you have to put it into context, so you let people know that I am concerned about this, and he is not doing that."
