Trump Victory Political Director Chris Carr downplayed reports of Democrats outvoting Republicans in early absentee voting, telling Newsmax TV on Friday that GOP surveys show its party's members are preferring to vote in-person.
''What we’ve seen, from the very beginning, is that our voters, through our volunteer surveys, through paid surveys that we do internally, is that our voters have made it very clear. They do not trust vote-by-mail,'' Carr said on ''Spicer & Co.'' ''However, they have said they want to make sure their vote is cast in a safe and secure manner, and that’s voting in person.''
Carr, whose position is with the combined fundraising arm for the Republican National Committee and President Donald Trump’s campaign, cited the example of North Carolina, where he said early absentee returns showed 28% more registered Democrats voting than Republicans.
''But as soon as early vote-in-person began, we started chipping away each and every day,'' Carr said. ''In fact, we’ve won the last eight days in early voting-in-person. So now, it’s down to a 7% advantage that the Democrats have.''
Carr claimed that Democrats have ''cannibalized'' their Election Day voters by ''scaring'' their registered party members to vote by absentee ballot, largely over fears of contracting the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the flu-like respiratory illness COVID-19.
''We have a ton of our mid-propensity/high-propensity voters – not to mention our low-propensity DJT [Donald J. Trump] supporters,'' Carr said, referring to individuals that were first-time voters in 2016 who didn’t vote in 2018 because Trump was not on the ballot.
He added that while there were more votes by registered Democrats than Republicans, that wasn’t all good for Democratic nominee Joe Biden, particularly in Florida.
''We’re doing a lot better with Democrats than Joe Biden is doing with Republicans,'' Carr said. ''There are a lot of Democrats, especially in the Panhandle, who support the president. So, it doesn’t tell the full story.''
