Congressional spending data show that it's a small world after all in terms of where several Republican lawmakers have chosen to hold their events: Disney World.
The Orlando, Fla.-based entertainment park has served as the family-friendly backdrop for Sen. David Vitter of Louisiana, as well as Reps. Tom Price of Georgia, Bill Huizenga of Michigan, Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina, and Anders Crenshaw of Florida, according to
OpenSecrets.org, which tracks political spending.
Those members of Congress have hosted events there in recent months, with Vitter's PAC spending about $6,000, while Crenshaw spent more than $25,000. Vitter also hosted a character breakfast at the theme park last year, with characters like Mickey, Minnie and Goofy paying a visit to the dining room for photos and merriment.
Price, Huizenga and Mulvaney teamed up for a baseball-themed event in March, calling it "Americans for Spring Training," according to the website
Political Party Time.
The
Times-Picayune of New Orleans reports that Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana hosted two Disney events in the past year, one in December that cost $2,932 and another in May for $7,263.
