The veteran GOP speechwriter who composed the emotional "Benghazi mom" speech bashing Hillary Clinton at the Republican National Convention is so fed up with Donald Trump he says may switch sides and vote for the Democratic presidential nominee.

"Despite what I wrote in that nationally televised speech about Hillary Clinton, I may yet have to vote for her because of the epic deficiencies of my own party’s nominee," Richard Cross wrote in the Baltimore Sun.

The prospect of voting for Clinton "is uncomfortable to me, as if Dr. Van Helsing were compelled to vote for Dracula. But the only prospect more terrifying than voting for Hillary Clinton is not voting for her....

"President Eisenhower would have never proposed banning Muslims from America. Nor would President Nixon. Nor would President Reagan. Donald Trump has betrayed and perverted their legacies. Consequently, I no longer recognize my party."

Cross, a former Capitol Hill and Annapolis press secretary, penned the dramatic speech read by Patricia Smith, who blames then-Secretary of State Clinton for the death of her son Sean Smith in the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya.
