Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus appears to be the leading candidate to become Donald Trump's chief of staff, according to reports.
BuzzFeed News obtained a list of 41 names put together by Trump's transition team, and Priebus' name was the only one listed for chief of staff, likely the first position Trump will announce.
Politico reported New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, head of Trump's transition team, is bucking for the chief of staff position, too.
Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner is at the top of that list, too.
BuzzFeed reported that some positions had just one name listed, including Priebus:
- Director of the Office of Management and Budget: Sen. Jeff Sessions.
- Secretary of Labor: Victoria Lipnic.
- Veterans Affairs: Rep. Jeff Miller.
- White House Counsel: Donald McGahn.
BuzzFeed reports three names being considered for secretary of state — Newt Gingrich, Sen. Bob Corker and John Bolton.
Sessions also appears as one of five candidates for secretary of defense, along with Gen. Mike Flynn, Stephen Hadley, former Sen. Jim Talent, and California Rep. Duncan Hunter Jr. from San Diego.
Hunter, who easily won his reelection bid in San Diego, but who was recently in the news for having to take out a loan to repay his campaign $49,000 for using monies for personal expenses.
Trump stalwarts also appear on the BuzzFeed list, including Rudy Giuliani (attorney general), Christie (on the list for three positions), Dr. Ben Carson (two positions), Sarah Palin (one of seven names for Secretary of Interior), Mike Huckabee (one of six names for Secretary of Commerce), and Jan Brewer (Secretary of Interior).
Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway could have White House press secretary job if she wants it, according to Politico.
Politico also reports that former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is jockeying for a position in a Trump administration, though his name does not appear on the BuzzFeed list.
