Only 1 in 4 American adults said diversity, equity, and inclusion programs are making companies better, according to a new Rasmussen Reports poll.
A full 34% said DEI is making companies worse, Rasmussen Reports found.
Another 25% said DEI programs don't make much difference and another 16% were not sure.
Companies that have implemented DEI policies reported they've done so to promote "the fair treatment and full participation of all people," particularly groups "who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination" on the basis of identity or disability, Rasmussen said.
A total of 64% of adults said they're familiar with DEI, including 32% who are very familiar.
Among American adults very familiar with DEI, 51% said such policies are making companies worse.
The Rasmussen poll also found that 37% of Americans said DEI programs are making products and entertainment worse, while 22% said such policies are making them better.
Another 26% said DEI does not make much difference with products and entertainment, and 15% were not sure.
Among those who were very familiar with DEI, 56% said such programs are making products and entertainment worse.
In a racial breakdown, 24% of whites, 32% of Blacks and 25% of other minorities said DEI programs were making companies better, while 34% of whites, 24% of Blacks, and 39% of other minorities said DEI is making companies worse.
Among political party members, more Republicans (38%) than Democrats (33%) or those unaffiliated (27%) said they were very familiar with DEI policies.
Among Republicans, 57% said DEI programs were making products and entertainment worse, while 23% of Democrats and 36% of the unaffiliated agreed.
Rasmussen Reports also found that adults under 40 were less likely than their elders to believe DEI programs were making companies and products worse.
Men are more likely than women to say DEI made companies and products worse.
The Rasmussen survey of 1,272 American adults was conducted March 10-12. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
