Rand Paul Hires Ted Cruz's Digital Media Expert

Sen. Rand Paul is gearing up for a presidential run in 2016 with a new digital media operative who was working for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

It's no secret that Paul, a Kentucky Republican, will most likely join the presidential race next year. The hiring of Vincent Harris, 26, is another indicator that he will launch a White House run.

Harris is the CEO of Harris Media, a digital communications firm headquartered in Austin, Texas. His list of present and former clients is a who's who list of Republicans: former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, and Cruz.

Harris will now serve as Paul's chief digital strategist, according to a Politico report.

Cruz is another possible White House contender in the next election, although he has yet to confirm his candidacy.

Harris told Politico he went over to the Paul campaign because of the Senator's commitment to having a solid digital presence. And they are both graduates of Baylor University.

"Rand Paul is a forward looking thought leader who is going to put a large emphasis on technology, probably a larger emphasis than any other candidate considering who he is, who his supporters are and his issue stands," Harris said.

Harris most recently helped McConnell beat Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes in the midterm elections. Last week, McConnell was voted as the Senate Majority Leader after Republicans seized control of the Senate.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Harris expressed his excitement of working with Paul over the next two years.

"Rand Paul is exciting because he's forward-looking and different," Harris said. "He doesn't just want to run the same tech operation that's been run before. This will not be a closed operation but a crowd-sourced campaign, one that innovates, led by a man who is a thought leader and innovator in politics."

Paul said last week he will publicly announce his decision on whether or not to run for president next spring.
