Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul has informed his political team he will run for re-election in 2016 but will not decide on whether to enter the GOP presidential race until next spring, CNN reported citing a spokesman.

If he does choose to make a White House run, it would create a dilemma in Kentucky because state law bars candidates from appearing on the same ballot for two different offices.

Although the GOP-controlled state Senate has tried to repeal the law, the measure was thrown out by the Democrat-run House. After the GOP failed last week to gain control of the House, the law is expected to remain in place until at least 2016, according to CNN.

Paul's supporters have proposed that the law should be challenged in court, while others are seeking ways to circumvent it, possibly by changing the state’s GOP presidential primary to a caucus system.

In a closed-door meeting at a Washington hotel on Wednesday, Paul mapped out his plans for next year while reviewing his campaign trips in the past two years, during which he visited 35 states to support candidates in the midterms and craft a presidential image.

The summit, headed by RAND PAC executive director Doug Stafford, covered fundraising performance, grassroots engagement, communications, and outreach programs, according to Paul’s spokesman Sergio Gor.

The other attendees included Michael Biundo of New Hampshire, who chaired Rick Santorum's presidential campaign, as well as Steve Grubbs and A.J. Spiker, both former chairmen of the Iowa Republican Party, and Republican consultant John Yob of Michigan.
