Nader Forming Team to Take On Obama

Friday, 02 September 2011 11:59 AM EDT

Consumer watchdog Ralph Nader, whose third-party candidacy for president in 2000 is widely thought to have been a factor in the election of George W. Bush, has outlined a plan to gather Democratic challengers to 2012 incumbent candidate President Barack Obama, reports DailyCaller.com.

Nader hopes a “slate” of challengers will make a bigger media impact than a single candidate, and spur debate on a number of liberal issues.
“So you have to have several people of distinguished backgrounds — different distinguished backgrounds — run as a slate in various primaries so that [Obama] can’t ignore someone who has a military-foreign policy background, environmental background, poverty-labor background. See what I mean?” said Nader.

Nader did not disclose his list of potential candidates, but was cool to the idea of former Alaska Gov. Mike Gravel seeking the office. Gravel has said he will challenge Obama for the Democratic nomination if supporters raise $1 million for his campaign.

“I had good things to say about him in ’08, but right now I’m focusing on this slate idea,” said Nader. “He could run against Obama and the press completely ignores him and he doesn’t get any debate with him.”
