Rahm Emanuel is warning Democrats to knock off the calls for impeachment of President Donald Trump, saying it's a "legal and constitutional" issue, not a "political tool," the Chicago Mayor told Axios.
Emanuel told Axios on Monday he's as angry at Trump as the next Democrat, but "you don't just flippantly say: 'We're for (impeachment).'"
You "don't just treat ... the policy standard of impeachment ... as a political tool. It's a constitutional standard and, when that standard has been met, we'll know about it," Emanuel told Axios. "This is a case where the best politics is good policy."
Republicans are using the threat of impeachment as a motivating force to turn out voters in November's midterms, The New York Times reported.
"They are radical leftist, socialist Democrats. They are like [Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi. They are far-left people," Wisconsin Republican Sean Duffy said last month. "Do you think that the far-left 'Resist' movement base of the Democrat Party would accept anything other than impeachment?"
