The mother of Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old Maryland mother allegedly slain by an illegal immigrant last year, told lawmakers Wednesday that neither President Joe Biden nor Vice President Kamala Harris have expressed remorse over the incident.
"Since we learned that it was an illegal immigrant that they've accused of murdering her, the Biden-Harris administration has not reached out to our family to offer condolences," Patty Morin testified on Capitol Hill.
"They say the borders are safe. We live 1,800 miles away from the southern border. They are not safe," she said.
"And I've noticed that when speaking about the border policy, they would rather look in the other direction, kind of like a little kid. You know, If I don't see you, you don't see me.
"I think that they are trying to avoid admitting that there is an issue," she added.
Police say Rachel Morin was beaten and strangled to death in August 2023 by Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, a migrant from El Salvador with gang ties.
Patty Morin said her daughter's death could have been prevented had proper policies been followed.
"If they had done the border protocols that were in place but were set aside — just a simple DNA swab — they would have known he had an Interpol warrant in his home country and that's why he was fleeing to the United States," Patty Morin said.
