President Donald Trump has spent more than 100 days, or nearly one-third of his time as president, visiting properties his company owns, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The time includes nearly 40 days at his golf course in Bedminster, N.J., and another 40 days at Mar-a-Lago, his resort in Palm Beach, Fla., the Journal said.
Trump is currently on a 10-day Christmas vacation at the Florida resort.
Trump spends much of his time away from Washington at places he owns, but where others pay to stay, the newspaper said. In contrast, recent presidents have spent time at their own homes, including President George W. Bush at his Texas ranch and his father in Kennebunk, Maine. President Barack Obama spent time in rented accommodations in Hawaii. Still, others vacationed at the presidential retreat, Camp David.
"George W. Bush went to his ranch in Crawford, Texas, a lot, but it's not like you could rent the bedroom next to his," said Jordan Libowitz, a spokesman for the transparency advocacy group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington.
Trump's air travel to Mar-a-Lago has cost about $6 million for the year, the Journal reported, attributing the total to a review of the Air Force's records obtained by Judicial Watch. And, the newspaper noted, the conservative watchdog group said Obama and his family had a travel cost of nearly $97 million during his eight years in the White House.
Meanwhile, CNN reported the president has also visited Trump National Golf Club in Northern Virginia 23 times and spent several days at Trump Tower in New York this summer.
