President Donald Trump said he thought Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., would return to Washington, D.C., if his vote was necessary in order to pass the tax reform bill before Congress, the Washington Examiner reported Sunday.
"I understand he'll come if we ever needed his vote, which hopefully we won't. But, the word is John will come back if we need his vote. It's too bad. He's going through (a) very tough time, there's no question about it. But he will come back if we need his vote," Trump told reporters at the White House on Sunday after speaking with McCain's wife, Cindy.
"I wish John well. They've headed back (to Arizona)," Trump said.
McCain had been hospitalized recently for side effects from chemotherapy to treat brain cancer.
