Although Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., told the Hill they're "still in the evaluation process," Pompeo is getting closer to making a decision on whether or not to launch a primary challenge against Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan.
"The election is August 2nd. Folks start voting even before that in Kansas," Pompeo told the Hill on the House flood on Friday. "So [a decision will be made] soon. Soon. I don't really know when."
Just following the announcement of President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, Pompeo started to entertain the idea of challenging Moran after the senator's willingness to hold a vote on the president's nomination.
"The evaluation process is simply this: Do we conclude this is the best thing for Kansas and for the country?" Pompeo asked.
The Hill notes that Pompeo sits as a member of the House Select Committee on Benghazi and is "helping to lead a special investigation into allegations that the military doctored intelligence reports about the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria."
