A majority of Americans believe that President-elect Donald Trump will be able to change the country and will do a very good or fairly good job when he takes over the presidency, according to a CNN poll.
When asked if Trump will be able to change the country:
- Yes, will change: 66 percent.
- No, will not change: 32 percent.
- No opinion: 2 percent.
The poll broke down the 66 percent number based on what the change would entail:
- Yes, will change U.S. for the better: 43 percent.
- Yes, will change for the worse: 21 percent.
- No, will not change: 32 percent.
- No opinion: 4 percent.
When asked what kind of president Trump would be:
- Very good: 29 percent.
- Fairly good: 24 percent.
- Fairly poor: 14 percent.
- Very poor: 30 percent.
- Depends: 2 percent.
- No opinion: 2 percent.
Voters appear split on whether the president-elect has made good decisions during his transition period so far:
- Approve: 46 percent.
- Disapprove: 45 percent.
- No opinion: 8 percent.
Forty-eight percent of voters in the poll said they were more confident in the president-elect based on what he's done and said since Election Day:
- More confident: 48 percent.
- Less confident: 43 percent.
- No difference: 7 percent.
- No opinion: 2 percent.
The poll also asked whether voters believe the incoming president could accomplish his stated goals.
Good-paying jobs in economically challenged areas:
- Very likely: 32 percent.
- Somewhat likely: 28 percent.
- Not very likely: 15 percent.
- Not likely at all: 25 percent.
- No opinion: 1 percent.
Defeat ISIS:
- Very likely: 25 percent.
- Somewhat likely: 25 percent.
- Not very likely: 18 percent.
- Not likely at all: 30 percent.
- No opinion: 2 percent.
Build a Mexican border wall:
- Very likely: 24 percent.
- Somewhat likely: 24 percent.
- Not very likely: 20 percent.
- Not likely at all: 31 percent.
- No opinion: 1 percent.
Repeal and replace Obamacare:
- Very likely: 45 percent.
- Somewhat likely: 28 percent.
- Not very likely: 12 percent.
- Not likely at all: 13 percent.
- No opinion: 1 percent.
