Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are leading in a new California poll, with Trump's lead coming despite unfavorable ratings by half of the state's registered voters and by 15 percent of Republicans likely to vote in the state's primary on June 7, a new poll reveals.

According to the poll, completed by SurveyUSA for television stations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, and Fresno:

Overall results:
  • Trump, 40 percent;
  • Cruz, 32 percent;
  • Kasich, 17 percent.
Among Moderates:
  • Trump, 35 percent;
  • Kasich, 34 percent;
  • Cruz, 10 percent.
"Somewhat conservative:"
  • Cruz, 44 percent;
  • Trump, 44 percent.
"Very conservative:"
  • Trump 45 percent;
  • Cruz, 38 percent.
And in favorability ratings:
  • Extremely positive: Trump over Cruz, 8-1;
  • Neutral: Cruz over Trump, 4-3;
  • Extremely negative on Trump: Cruz, 10-1.
Trump, Cruz, or Kasich will need to carry every one of California's 53 Congressional districts to claim all 173 GO Congressional Districts.

In the Democratic race, voters picked:
  • Clinton, 53 percent;
  • Sanders 39 percent.
Clinton took the white vote by 48-42 percent and the African American vote by 3-1, but Sanders leads Clinton among unmarried voters, while Clinton leads among those who are married.

The poll also measured potential head-to-head November matchups, with those surveyed saying either Clinton or Sanders would defeat any of the three GOP contenders:
  • Clinton defeats Trump, 60 percent to 26 percent;
  • Clinton over Cruz, 57 percent to 32 percent;
  • Clinton over Kasich, 56 percent to 33 percent;
  • Sanders over Trump, 63 percent to 24 percent;
  • Sanders over Cruz, 61 percent to 26 percent;
  • Sanders defeats Kasich, 57 percent to 28 percent.
They also said they preferred the Democrats in the White House if there is a major terrorism attack:
  • Clinton, 37 percent;
  • Sanders, 21 percent;
  • Trump, 15 percent;
  • Cruz, 9 percent;
  • Kasich, 5 percent.
The survey interviewed 2,400 adults between March 30 and April 3, including 1,991 registered voters, 356 Republicans, and 767 Democrats.
