New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has marked an all-time low in his own state and now has the worst approval rating in six years for any governor in states surveyed by
Quinnipiac University, a new poll released on Wednesday reveals.
According to the poll, conducted of 1,989 New Jersey voters from May 10-16:
- Voters disapprove 64-29 percent of the job he is doing;
- His lowest approval score before now was 56-38 percent on April 20;
- Republicans approve by 59-34 percent;
- Democrats disapprove by 86-9 percent;
- Independents disapprove by 66-26 percent.
Christie
suspended his own race for the GOP presidential nomination in February, and soon after announced his
endorsement for presumptive nominee Donald Trump, and may be under consideration to become
Trump's running mate.
However, his state's voters don't think that should happen:
- 72-18 percent say Trump should not pick him;
- Republicans oppose him as running mate by 64-27 percent.
Meanwhile, voters approve by a margin of 49-25 percent of Democratic Sen. Cory Booker's job performance, but disapprove of Republican Sen. Robert Menendez's performance by 40-34 percent.
The poll carried a 2.2 percentage point margin of error.
