Most of former Vice President Joe Biden’s supporters in Pennsylvania said in a recent poll that they plan to back the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee to vote “against” President Donald Trump.
The survey, which was conducted by Franklin & Marshall College’s Center for Opinion Research, found that just over half, 55%, of voters supporting Biden said they’re doing so because they want to oust Trump, not because of the former vice president. The vast majority of Trump supporters, 78%, said their ballot is “more of a vote for” Trump than “against Joe Biden.”
According to the Center, “There are far fewer registered voters in July, 2020 who express support for a third-party candidate or who are undecided compared to the preferences expressed in July, 2016.”
Biden leads Trump in the state, 50% to 41%, and only 38% of Pennsylvanians said that Trump is doing an excellent or good job as president, the same rating he received in the state back in January.
The Center notes that Trump “outperforms his overall job rating on the economy, with 45% rating him positively for creating jobs. His ratings on foreign policy and immigration are similar to his overall rating, while his ratings for handling the COVID-19 outbreak, improving healthcare, and protecting the environment are well below his overall rating.”
The Center for Opinion Research surveyed 667 registered voters in Pennsylvania from July 20-26, 2020. This poll has a margin of error of 5.5 percentage points.
