Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden holds a five-point lead over President Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, down from the nine-point lead the former vice president had in his home state in August.
Results from the Emerson College/NewsNation poll of likely voters in the state show:
- Biden has 50% support, compared to Trump's 45%. Trump beat Democrat Hillary Clinton by less than 1 percentage point in the state in 2016.
- Only 3% are still undecided, and 2% plan to vote for another candidate.
- 33% view the economy as the most important issue, 19% say COVID-19 response is most important, and 16% say healthcare.
- Trump's approval rating is at 44%, which is up from his 42% approval in August.
- 50% consider COVID-19 a major threat to public health, while 32% say the threat is moderate, 15% say it is minor, and 3% say it is not a threat at all.
- Among Biden supporters, 84% say COVID-19 is a major threat and 15% say the threat is moderate. Among Trump supporters, 15% say the threat is major, 49% say it is moderate, and 30% say it is minor.
"In these last four weeks, both candidates can be expected to continue arguing about the impact of COVID, as this appears to be a major driver for who they will vote for," said Emerson College Polling Director Spencer Kimball.
The poll was conducted among 688 likely Pennsylvania voters from Oct. 4-5. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
