Vice President Mike Pence on Sunday called the raid that took out ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in northern Syria a “great day for America” — but vowed the United States won’t stop its fight against ISIS.
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” Pence praised the Saturday night operation and Trump’s leadership to order it.
“We believe we’ll have a measurable impact on the effectiveness of that terrorist organization,” he said. “But we’re not going to let up, we’re not going to stop the fight.”
“It was Saturday morning that we received the actionable intelligence that allowed the decision that the president had made to move forward, to happen and it was incredible to be in the situation room and to see this unfold in real time,” Pence said.
"All the credit goes here to the decisiveness of this commander-in-chief and the courage and professionalism" of U.S. Special Forces, he added.
When questioned about the matter that sparked an impeachment inquiry of Trump, Pence hedged about whether there was a quid pro quo involving military aid money to Ukraine in exchange for a corruption probe of Joe Biden and his son.
“I can only tell you what I know...what I know is the transcript shows there was no quid pro quo in all of my interactions with President [Volodymyr ] Zelenskiy,” he said.
