President Donald Trump is “impeached for life” no matter what the Senate does, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday.
“This president is impeached for life regardless of any gamesmanship on the part of [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell,” Pelosi said, adding, “There is nothing the Senate can do to ever erase that.”
Following her comments, “#ImpeachedForLife” started to trend on Twitter, according to The Hill.
When asked if she had any second thoughts about her delay in sending the articles of impeachment, Pelosi told ABC that she did not, because the delay has been “a positive result in terms of additional emails and un-redacted information that has come forward, that [former national security adviser John] Bolton has said that he would testify if subpoenaed by the Senate... And more importantly, raising the profile of the fact that we need to have witnesses and documentation, and if we don't that is a cover-up.”
She also emphasized that the difference between the procedure for President Bill Clinton’s trial and for Trump’s is that this president “has not allowed the witnesses to be deposed for the House or for the Senate,” while Clinton did allow it.
Pelosi said she will meet with her caucus on Tuesday to decide when to deliver the articles to the Senate, and the trial is expected to start 24 hours after they are sent over.
When asked about Trump’s comments that she is crazy, Pelosi said she does not like to spend much time on his tweets, “because everything he says is a projection. When he calls someone crazy he knows that he is. Everything he says you can just translate it back to who he is.”
