House Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted President Donald Trump during a private meeting Wednesday with Democrats, Politico is reporting.
The meeting came after Pelosi, standing behind Trump as he completed his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, ripped up a copy of his address on national television.
She told her caucus that she felt "liberated" by disposing of the president's speech.
"He shredded the truth, so I shredded his speech," Pelosi told the House Democrats, according to Politico, which attributed the quote to multiple sources in the room. "What we heard last night was a disgrace."
Politico reported that Democrats gave her a standing ovation for her remarks.
And House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y. said about Pelosi ripping up the president's speech: "As far as I'm concerned, a shredder wasn't available, so she did what she needed to do."
