Nearly $26 million has been brought into the Democratic Party this year by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., The Washington Post reports.
The Post attributed the dollar total to figures provided by Pelosi aides.
It said $24.7 million of the $25.9 million raised by Pelosi went to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which is directing the party's efforts to regain control of the House in 2018. She had raised $14 million for the DCCC in the same time frame two years ago, the newspaper said.
Pelosi's spokesman, Jorge Aguilar, noted her network of progressive political donors when asked about her fundraising ability, The Washington Times reports.
"Leader Pelosi has national progressive donor network dating back well over 30 years before her days as chair of the California Democratic Party," Aguilar said. "She has, however, raised over half a billion dollars since entering leadership in 2002."
And Pelosi has defended her ability to bring in money to the Democratic coffers, the Post said.
"My leadership is recognized by many around the country, and that is why I'm able to attract the (financial) support that I do, which is essential to our elections, sad to say," she said
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., has raised $33.1 million in the first half of the year, The Post reported. However, the newspaper said it is difficult to compare that figure with Pelosi's because she organizes her fundraising differently.
